Film & Criminology – Messiah, Mary, Kylea

Introduction

For eighth grade projects we decided to learn about film and criminology because we all enjoy and appreciate learning about the art of film and science of crime. Both subjects are things we wanted to learn more about. Film is a way of expressing creativity and emotion, through screenwriting, acting and producing. Forensic science is a common practice used by investigators to locate a suspect involved in a crime. So for our project we will be discussing the different aspects of crime and film. Also along with forensic science, acting, and the history of it.

Personal Narratives

I decided to do Criminology and Film because they’re both two topics that intrigue me. I don’t know when I started liking them but I enjoy learning more about them everyday. I find criminology interesting because of how the science of it all works together to solve a case. The thrill of solving a mystery makes me happy and I want to do it again. Film also attracts me because the lighting, the setting, the right words and a person’s acting can really make you feel different emotions and I find that really fascinating. It can really help a person express their creativity. Those two interests really helped me decide what to do.

Criminology and Film are both wonderful subjects that I really like to  learn about. Criminology is an interesting topic because I love deep mysteries and solving puzzles. The reason why crime is so intriguing to me is that I’m up to solving any mystery-related challenge. Solving mystery puzzles really gives me that thrilling sensation. If I were to be in the criminal investigation industry, I would be a cognitive psychologist, or a private investigator. Film is a great subject that I can never get bored of, especially when crime and movies are mixed together. One thing I love about film is how you can really express your creativity and emotion. I really want to create a film/cinematography club in high school as It would also be a great opportunity to meet new people. Combining the two subjects makes it even more interesting for me because I love writing mystery scripts. If I were to be in the film industry I would be a cinematographer or a director or even an actor. That is what inspired me for 8th grade projects, combining the two together into one.

The reason I wanted to do Criminology and Film is that I find it interesting. I had always found investigation interesting how scientists had found ways to track and find people with the limited evidence found. What really interests me is the psychological aspect of how they interrogate witnesses and how they solve crimes with science. It’s the same for Film. The actors all would have to be comfortable with being someone else and act how they would think their character would act. It’s also all the scenery. The scenery can set the mood. It’s funny how easily a change of scenery can change how certain people act. It is brilliant how humans found a way to capture a moment of time like in movies. Those are the reasons that I wanted to do Criminology and Film and I hope you find it interesting too.

Fingerprints are a big part of the forensic science community. They use fingerprint systems very often to identify fingerprints left at a crime scene as they are the easiest to find the offender.
